Public Records Requests

Every Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) request Civest Sphere has filed with Long Island towns: when it went out, when the town has to answer, and what came back. Records we receive are posted here and used in our public tools.

Requests filed under New York's Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6.

What We Asked For

All 10 Suffolk towns · October 2026

2025–26 property tax rolls

The parcel-level tax roll in electronic form: each property's taxing districts, rates and tax amounts. With it, the Tax Analyzer can break down Suffolk tax bills line by line, as it already does for Nassau.

7 Long Island towns · October 4, 2026

Town contracts over $20,000

A list of every town contract over $20,000 awarded since January 2024, from Babylon, Brookhaven, Hempstead, Huntington, Islip, Oyster Bay and Smithtown.

Nassau & Suffolk legislatures · October 19, 2026

County grants and who sponsored them

Every county grant to villages, towns, school and fire districts and nonprofits since 2020, including Nassau's Community Revitalization Program and Suffolk's Jumpstart, downtown and water quality grants, with the sponsoring county legislator. These will be added to the District Funding map.

Babylon Bid Awards, 2024–2026

Babylon told us it keeps no list of contracts over $20,000. In response to a narrower request, its Division of Purchasing sent the bid lists it keeps for each year: every bid the Town advertised, and who won it. The lists do not show dollar amounts, so we are pursuing payment records to put a value on each award.

20 days

It must then grant or deny the request within 20 business days, or explain in writing why it needs longer and give a date.

30 days

A denial, or a missed deadline, can be appealed to the town within 30 days.
